MINSK, May 21 (BelTA) – Pricing issues for socially important products have worsened amid volatility in global markets, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Eurasian Supreme Economic Council online meeting on May 21 , BelTA learned.
“Now, given the volatility of world markets, the problems associated with the sharp price fluctuations of socially important products have worsened,” said Vladimir Putin.
He added that Russia was grateful to the partners for supporting the Russian initiative to normalize the situation in this area. “We have concrete solutions to this problem. For example, not so long ago, the Eurasian Economic Commission took concrete decisions to consolidate the price policy of the EAEU on the sugar market,” recalled the Russian leader.
According to him, action should be taken with regard to other products if necessary.
Vladimir Putin considers it necessary to study the possibility of concluding free trade agreements with Indonesia and Mongolia. He recalled that the EAEU has signed similar documents with Vietnam, Serbia, Iran and Singapore. âWe consider it important to intensify negotiations on similar agreements with Israel and we support Aleksandr Lukashenko’s proposal to sign a similar agreement with Egypt. We also consider it important to start negotiations as soon as possible with our main partner, India, in order to carefully examine the feasibility of a free trade agreement with another big country – Indonesia, and with our neighbor Mongolia “, underlined the Russian leader.
Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, he said, trade between Eurasian Economic Union member states grew by 17% in the first quarter of 2021, compared to the same period last year. The President hailed it as a very good sign that the EAEU is moving in the right direction, that the efforts are yielding concrete results. “In general, we are satisfied with the way in which the cooperation within the EAEU is developing and, above all, with the fact that it brings real economic benefits, which are felt by the inhabitants of our countries”, declared Vladimir Putin.
The Russian leader also noted that issues related to strengthening the EAEU common market require special attention. He explained that this includes the removal of unnecessary barriers and restrictions in trade in goods. âThis work has been consistent and focused. As a result, despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, trade between EAEU member states increased by 17% in January-March 2021, âsaid Vladimir Putin.
