Lionel Messi is being chased by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich ahead of an urgent meeting with Chelsea following Barcelona exit.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s stance on signing superstar Lionel Messi has come to light after the Argentine’s release from Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.
The striker can sign for whoever he wants on a free transfer following Barcelona’s failed contract offer.
According to AS, Abramovich has set eyes on Messi and pushed for a deal.
The report says Messi’s “earthquake” prompted Abramovich to want to sign the Argentine as the owner requested an “urgent meeting” with Messi’s surroundings.
Abramovich wants to “start propping up the pitch” to bring Messi to Chelsea this summer as he knows Manchester City will struggle to get Messi due to the acquisition of Jack Grealish.
News broke after Barcelona and Messi were denied a contract extension by La Liga for financial reasons.
The situation shocked the football world as Messi is now a free agent, available to talk to all other clubs.
It has been reported that Paris Saint-Germain are currently leading the race for Messi’s signing, but Abramovich is ready to get involved in trying to convince the Argentine to sign for Chelsea this summer.
The Blues are expected to sign Romelu Lukaku as they seek a goalscorer this summer, but a move for Messi could also occur.
Chelsea are one of the only clubs that can afford the financial package to bring in Messi this summer and the club want to “listen to Messi’s demands” in case it is possible “to undertake the operation”.
With Abramovich at the head of the movement, could Messi finish in Blue this summer?
