Newcastle United have named legal hotshot in lawsuit
Newcastle United have one of the best in the business fighting in their next Premier League legal battle.
This is according to the finance guru and Football insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after the appointment of Mike Ashley Daniel Jowell as his QC for the recently brought anti-competitive lawsuit against the Premier League.
Jowell is an anti-competition specialist and, according to his Brick Court Chambers website, has previously represented Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Jowell is tasked with removing some of the obstacles that stand in the way of a takeover of Newcastle by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.
And Maguire says his appointment to the legal team can only be good news to that end.
“It bodes well for the redemption,” he said Football insider correspondent Adam Williams.
âThe reputation of the people and the future of Newcastle United are at stake. You want someone in your corner who will best represent your interests.
âSo you find out who the best QCs are and you take them. There are a few pretty impressive ones out there and obviously it falls into that category.
“So what Ashley did definitely makes sense in this appointment.”
Shortly before Ashley filed against the Premier League, HMRC dropped a long-standing investigation into Newcastle’s tax cases.
The HMRC also dropped the charges against West Ham, as the task force named Operation Loom scaled back its investigations.
In other news, Newcastle United have argued to seal a “truly incredible” signing following Major Steve Bruce’s revelation.
