Putin is convinced there is no alternative to trilateral Karabakh deals – Russian politics and diplomacy

MOSCOW, May 17 / TASS /. Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that there is no alternative to the implementation of the trilateral agreements on Nagorno-Karabakh, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.
“The president is a strong supporter of the lack of alternatives to the implementation of trilateral agreements, and energetic efforts are being made to ease tensions and rectify the situation at the border,” he said.
Peskov struggled to answer the question of whether Putin had received a letter from the acting Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, regarding military assistance. He noted that “all these issues have been discussed on several occasions during bilateral contacts”. He added that Russia was in contact with Azerbaijan and Armenia on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
Clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia erupted on September 27, 2020, with intense battles raging in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration on a comprehensive ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the document, Azerbaijani and Armenian forces stopped at positions they had maintained, some of the districts came under Baku’s control, and Russian peacekeepers were deployed along the line of engagement and the along the Lachin corridor which connects Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
