Tuchel makes contract promise to Abramovich after getting Chelsea extension
The German tactician has committed to an initial 18-month deal, but is on line for new terms after winning Champions League glory
Thomas Tuchel has vowed to “stay hungry” at Chelsea after winning Champions League glory and securing an extended contract.
Goal was able to confirm that the German tactician will be given new warrants on the back of an astonishing continental triumph, with an initial 18-month deal being torn apart.
Roman Abramovich saw his decision to replace club legend Frank Lampard in January justified and the man currently calling the canoe shots intends to deliver more silverware.
What did Thomas Tuchel say?
Tuchel, who also guided Chelsea to the Premier League top four and a place in the FA Cup final, told the Blues’ official site on his message to Abramovich: “I can assure him that I will stay hungry.”
“I want the next title and I feel absolutely happy, I feel like part of a really ambitious club and part of a strong group that fits my beliefs perfectly and fits my passion for football right now.
“So my desire is to go for more wins. My desire is to grow as a coach and my desire is to push the squad on the first day of next season to the limit.
“We have work to do. We have to close the gap and that is what I am.”
Overview for Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea
Chelsea have grown accustomed to scoring trophies during Abramovich’s tenure as owner, with his investment allowing for rapid progress.
Tuchel adheres to the ambition of his superiors, with the 47-year-old not about to rest on his laurels despite obtaining the most prestigious award.
“This is the next one,” Tuchel added, winning a second European Cup for Chelsea.
“I experienced it on a lower level when I won my first title in professional football and it was even a nice feeling that it didn’t hurt me too much.
“When we won the cup with Dortmund, I didn’t come to the next training with less hunger, less desire or less ambition.
“Of course, now is the time to celebrate for a few days, enjoy it and let it sink in. Now is the time for a week or two to talk about it and think about it. But surprisingly, it doesn’t do much to you, and I think it’s good because no one wants to rest.
“I don’t want to rest. I want the next one. I want the next success and I want the next title and I want the next process with the same level of quality of consistency.”
“I want to be a part of it and that’s what comes next. Make no mistake about it.”
